Story Updates

It has become clear that Cyan intends to drive a story within Uru. It has also become clear that the story elements are going to be effecting the game play elements. I've decided it would now be helpful to have a section where I will keep folks up to date on the bare bones of what is happening. I can't pretend to be on top of everything, but I will do my best.

Understand this is not going to be exhaustive. It's just enough to give the gist of what is going on.

  • March 2007: Douglas Sharper returns after remaining in the cavern after the DRC folded for the first time two years ago. You can learn a lot about Sharper by reading his journal in his office which can be linked to through Teledahn, but he is openly critical of the way in which the DRC is handling the restoration. In the time since his disappearance, he has taken Yeesha's journey and walked the Path of the Shell. He now begins talking of his concern over a decrease in the animal population in Negilahn.

  • April 26, 2007: The director of the DRC, Cate Alexander, puts Nick White, a D'ni translator working with the DRC and a close friend of Sharper, on probation for fraternizing with explorers.

  • May 3, 2007: Nick White is fired.

  • May 3, 2007: Sharper writes in his journal that he is convinced that the decline in the animal population is a result of a large, and mean, predator. As a big game hunter himself, he means to kill the beast.

  • Early May, 2007: Bahro activity is increasing. Their calls are heard more frequently in the cavern, and even occasionally in individual Reltos. Many explorers begin reporting Bahro sitings in the city.

  • May 19, 2007: Seismic activity damages the wall near the pub in Ae'gura. The DRC warns explorers to stay clear of the area.

  • May 20, 2007: Willow "Wheely" Engberg, daughter of DRC member Michael Engberg, and her friend, Rosette "Rose" Taylor, go missing after being trapped when the wall near the Ae'gura pub collapses. The DRC shut down the city.

  • May 21, 2007: Rose is announce killed by the initial collapse. Efforts continue to reach Wheely with whom contact has now been established through her KI. The city is reopened, but access to the pub has been blocked.

  • May 22, 2007: Wheely reports being in a dark cave and her Relto book doesn't work - and she is not alone. There appears to be a Bahro with her. Her KI begins reporting her linking between different Ages before returning to the cave. Just as Michael Engberg and the rescue team are about to reach her, she is savagely murdered. All indications are that the killer was the Bahro. Before being killed, Wheely reported the Bahro repeated saying, "Nobolen". DRC member, Victor Laxman, says that this is the name of an Age.

  • May 23, 2007: Sharper returns from his expeditions to Nagilahn and reports that the predator is, in fact, a large group of Bahro. He followed the bloody trail of one of their kills into an ambush and would have been killed himself except that a second group of Bahro interceded, beginning a deadly battle with the first. The second group linked Sharper to safety.

  • May 23, 2007: Michael Engberg goes missing. After visiting the flowers laid in the pub, he travels to the Descent linking stone muttering the name of Dr Watson. Watson, an earlier DRC chairman, disappeared more than two years ago from that very location. His journal is there for you to read.

  • June 26, 2007: Dr. Kodama of the DRC releases a report stating that the the collapse that killed Rose and Wheely was not caused by any natural phenomenon. Unofficially, he makes it clear that he blames the Bahro.

  • June 27, 2007: Douglas Sharper announces that he will going to Noloben to collect information on the ongoing Bahro conflict. He says that he is fully prepared to defend himself if he needs to.

  • July 30, 2007: Sharper returns from Noloben announcing that he has killed one of the Bahro. Nick White talks to explorers saying that Sharper isn't himself. Nick fears that he may have killed one of the good Bahro by accident. Sharper angrily insists that the Bahro he killed was an evil one and that we will be involved in this war one way or another and we should try to get on the side of the good Bahro. Sharper announces that he will be returning to Noloben, but cancels the trip a few days later.

  • July 31, 2007: Two Bahro link into the Watcher's Sanctuary and deposit their dead comrade (undoubtedly the one Sharper killed) on the viewer. They chatter and howl, but do not threaten the many explorers that are there. Soon after, Bahro sightings around Uru spike dramatically as they appear all over the cavern. They seem curious about the explorers, but non threatening.

  • August 3, 2007: After being assumed dead in an accident for years (read Sharper's journal in Teledahn for details) explorer Phil Henderson returns to Ae'gura. He speaks cryptically with explorers about being to many places and seeing many things. He knows about the Bahro that have been in the cavern and informs explorers that they are the good Bahro, here protecting us. He agrees that a conflict between the Bahro will undoubtedly spill into Uru, when surprised Sharper shows up. Now calmer, Sharper admits that he likely killed a good Bahro when it leaped in front of the evil Bahro he was shooting for. Phil seems to know about all these events, and a great deal more. He calls Wheely's death an unfortunate tragedy. She went where she was not meant to. He then leaves as mysteriously as he came.

  • September 8, 2007: Phil Henderson returns to various places in the Cavern saying that he will be returning soon. He also talks about the colours while playing with the garden lights and speaks other, almost drug induced like, comments. Douglas Sharper also returns and informs that the war is going badly for the good Bahro and that it may be effecting all of us sooner rather than later. A few days later he announces that he is leaving to help the good Bahro in their fight.

  • Septmber 10, 2007: Dr. Watson and Michael Engberg return. Engberg had found Watson who has been travelling through ages for the past several years. In his journey's he has talked with Phil and Yeesha and has met Atrus (Yeesha's father) in the D'ni refuge of Releeshan. He has tried to communicate with the Bahro, but Yeesha is far more skilled with it. He informs us that the Bahro have recently been granted their freedom and that each are making decisions based upon their own conscience, hence the current conflict. Watson has little interest in the Restoration now and will not be rejoining the DRC.
