What To Do?
Uru can be a bit intimidating to the new player, but here is a short list of various things to do. This is by no means exhaustive. Uru is designed to be very open ended. Basically, you can do whatever you want when you want.
I will update this list as more things come available.Get Your KI:
The KI is an indispensable tool in Uru. It is your chief means of communicating with other players, both through chat and private messages. It is also your log book, a camera, a cavern positioning device (once calibrated), a tool for uploading information to the viewer in your neighbourhood and, once you find it, the viewer for your Relto. The KI is absolutely necessary for some of the quests and you can use it to invite others to your Ages. The KI even tells you the name of the Age you are in and the locations of any of your neighbours or buddies. All the rest of the stuff on this page you can do in any order, but anyone would certainly recommend getting your KI first.
To get your KI, go to the classroom of any Bevin (follow the sign in the central court). Read the instructions on the board in the classroom as to where to find your KI. Once you have it, read the manual that is found on the desk in the classroom or checkout my user friendly manual.Explore Other Neighbourhoods and the City:
If you've gotten to the Guild of Helpers, then you already have been through the Nexus. The Nexus linking book is on the central podium in the book room (across from the classroom) of every Bevin and, after your first time to the Nexus, it will also be on the bookshelf in your Relto.
The Nexus is a central book suppository. As you find more locations, most of them will appear under the Personal Links section. If you click City Locations, you will be provided with links (well, only one at first) to different locations in the city of Ae'gura, a large D'ni community that is virtually guaranteed to be full of other players that you can interact with. Take the time to explore the city and meet other players.
Under Public Links in the Nexus, you will find all Bevin Neighbourhood's that have been made public by their owners. There are many different neighbourhoods with different themes. Don't hesitate to visit them (remember the owners made them public, so they want visitors). Talk with them and check out their viewer to see what they are about. Two good places to go for the new player are A Beginner's Bevin which is run by the DRC (strictly In Cavern here) and The Guild of Greeters with many folks more than happy to chat or lend a hand. The Cleft:
In the center of your Relto is a short totem. It will open upon clicking on the hand symbol. Inside is a linking book to The Cleft. This is the starting point of Yeesha's Journey. Who is Yeesha? Well, that is really for you to find out, but start off by heading to a camper that you'll find in this area and have a word with Zandi. He may be a little cryptic, but he should be able to send you on your way.
Once you have completed the Cleft quest, four more Ages will become available to you at your Relto. Completing each of these Ages will give will bring rewards for your Relto and teach you more about the story behind Uru. The puzzles in these Ages can be worked through solo, or you can bring others with you. Other than those that you bring, you will not be meeting other players in these Ages. The Pods:
If you explore the city, you will almost certainly find the museum in which you will find four linking books. These books take you to the interiors of four pods that are each located in very different environments. Although it may not seem so at first, there is something that needs to be accomplished in each pod, with rewards for your Relto upon completion. There are many spoilers out there that will help you, but this can be puzzled out on your own (which, in the end, is likely more satisfying). I will provide this in direction, though. Make sure you take a good look at the map you will find in the museum near the books (in fact, take a screen shot to keep), and start your exploration with Payiferen. If there doesn't seem to be anything interesting happening, keep visiting it on different days and note the changes. Be patient, but don't be afraid to ask for help if you need it.Eder Tsogal / Eder Delin:
In each Bevin there is a linking book to either Eder Tsogal or Eder Delin (central back podium in the book room). Explore these small, garden Ages with someone else, but in order to complete the mission here, you will need a small party of players. Both Ages will provide a separate reward for your Relto.Calibrating the Great Zero:
This is a mission you perform solo but will have to be completed by a massive amount of players for a successful conclusion. To get started on this mission, visit the Great Zero linking book in the book room of any Relto (it's on the right hand podium). Read the instructions that you will find in the booklet there.Minkata: It's new, it's big, and - it's windy. More importantly it's the first Age of Uru OnLine Episode 5. This is the first Myst/Uru Age that is completely open. This may inspire you to begin just running around exploring (and getting lost), but take the time to pause and think about what to do and where to go. Like any Myst Age, thrashing around randomly is not the way to go.
The Watcher's Pub: The only other public area besides Ae'gura, the Watcher's Pub is also the starting point for take the Path of the Shell. This is a developing story in Uru that began with the release of Er'cana, the book for which you will find here.
Collect Stuff:
Everywhere in the game is stuff for you to collect. Here is a list of the different types of things that are out there. I won't provide a complete list or the actual locations of anything. Follow some of the links to the left if you are looking for that. Also note that new items are always being added, and sometimes taken away.
- Bahro Stones: These work in the same way as the linking books, but are instead scattered around. Each stone you use will add a linking page to the appropriate book in your Relto so you won't have to find the stone again to revisit the location it links to.
- Relto Pages: These small, yellow, pages will add items to your Relto allowing you to personalize it.
- Clothing: These items will add additional clothing items to your wardrobe.
- Calender Sparks: There is one of these in the game at any particular time and they will add a lantern to a small island that you can get for your Relto once you find the appropriate Relto Page (hint: it's near The Cleft). At the beginning of each month, the location of the spark will move and finding it will add another lantern to the island.
