Why Am I Alone? - Understanding Age Instance

Why am I so often alone? Why are some places full of people and others not? This is just a quick look at how access levels work to the different Ages of Uru.

Remember, your KI will always provide you with the name of the Age you are in.

Private Instance - Your Relto: The first place you start in is called Relto. This place is your own private Age. Every player has their own Relto and you have some ability to personalize it. In the center of the island is a small building. Inside you will find a wardrobe that you can use to change the appearance of your avatar. There is also a book shelf on the right which will have book(s) that contain information for completing some quests, but the more important shelf is on the left. There are kept your linking books. As you discover more locations, more books - and pages in those books - will appear on this shelf.

Other than the Bevin book (the one on the far left) all these books link to private Ages. Explore these Ages carefully, but the one thing you will not find here are other players - unless you invite them.

Inviting people to your Relto is easy. When you open your Relto book (at the bottom left corner of your screen) click on the double-hand icon of the left page. This changes your cursor to a book. Click a player you are facing and your avatar will open the book to that player. That player then clicks on the book and goes to your Relto. Once in your Relto, the player is free to visit any of your Ages, but your books start off being locked. To unlock a book simply flip up the tab at the top of the slot that the book is in. In this way, groups of players can explore these Ages together. There is also a way of inviting people to your Ages through your KI, but I'll leave that for a separate article just on the KI, or you can check out the instruction manual in your Bevin classroom. And speaking about Bevin ...

Neighbourhood Instance - Your Bevin: When you join Uru, you also join a Bevin neighbourhood. The far left book on your Relto shelf links you here. A neighbourhood can be made of any number of players. Your neighbourhood starts off as being private which means that only members of your neighbourhood and those they invite can visit it. A neighbourhood can be made public at the Nexus (more on this in a sec) but be warned, there are many neighbourhoods and the Nexus will list only about fifty under the public list. This means your neighbourhood likely won't stay public for more than a day or so.

Each Bevin has two viewers in the central court. The one on the right lists the last two dozen or so people to have linked into the neighbourhood with the days and times they arrived. It also lists the neighbourhood Heek champs. This is the game table near the light garden. The instructions to play are in an Age called Gahreesen. Basically, its an advanced version of rock-paper-scisors. The left hand viewer is one that you can upload images and messages to. Again, you can find instructions in the classroom.

In your Bevin you will find a linking room in which there are a few books and a Bahro stone. Each of these will link you to neighbourhood instances ('hood instances) of some Ages. That means your neighbours will be together in these Ages. The Ages are, 'hood instance Gahreesen, a garden Age (either Eder Tsogal or Eder Delin), the Great Zero, and the 'hood instance of the city of Ae'gura. The only book here that doesn't link to a 'hood instance is the central book which links to the Nexus, which is a private instance.

Public Instance - The City: As mentioned, in the central podium in the linking room of Bevin is a link to the Nexus and once you've linked there once, you will find a linking book in your Relto too. From the Nexus you have access to a variety of places separated into four groups: City Locations, Private Links, Public Links, and Personal Links.

  • City Locations: These are locations in the D'ni city of Ae'gura which is accessible to everyone in the game. If you haven't run into anyone else yet, you will run into people here.

  • Private Links: When sent an invitation to visit an Age belonging to another player, the link for that Age will appear here.

  • Public Links: A list of the public Bevins.

  • Personal Links: These are links to your own Ages.

Hopefully, this has helped some new players understand the various levels of access to the Ages of Uru.
